Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a common disease in adult and geriatric cats.

CKD is a progressive disease and the rate of the progression varies with each cat, along with the clinical signs.

Can you cure CKD?

Unfortunately not, however you may manage it to slow down the progression. Patients diagnosed with CKD can still have a fulfilling life for a fairly long time if managed well. The main goals of maintaining CKD are as follows:

  • Minimise clinical signs such as weight loss, increased thirst, increased urination and inappetence.
  • Slow the progression of the disease.
  • Improve the quality of life for the patient.

There are different treatment plans tailored to each cat including medications, diet and re-hydration through fluid therapy.
