"Welcome to St Heliers Veterinary Hospital, the newest addition to the Veterinary Hospital Group. Operating out of what was previously the Glendowie Vet Clinic run by Dr Martin Reid, the team at St Heliers have taken up the torch to continue the excellent vet care that has been provided at the current location for 40 years. The clinic is purpose built, offering a large and comfortable reception area (stocked with all of your pets favourite goodies!), separate cat and dog wards, in house lab, ultrasound, dental equipment and x-rays.
We offer both general practice level care and diagnostics as well as soft tissue surgery and dentistry all provided by our excellent team of qualified staff that have hit the ground running from April 2024. Our team have already had the pleasure of meeting many of the locals of St Heliers, Glendowie and Kohimarama and we're so excited to be a part of such a close knit community.
The team of doctors include Dr Seán McMahon and Dr Ashlin Urieli and are supported by practice manager and nurse Rebekah, as well as nurses Mel and Cassy. You'll also find familiar faces Ginny and Melanie, who work every Saturday and have done so for many years. Read about them below, or pop in to see us anytime!"
Seán graduated from University College Dublin in 2021 and worked in mixed animal practice in Kildare and Wicklow, Ireland - handling equine, farm and small animal care. Seeking new opportunities, he and his partner Katie moved to New Zealand and have recently settled in St Heliers
I’m a New Zealand veterinary surgeon who graduated in 2018 and have spent the past 6 years working with both small and large animals. I’m passionate about small animal surgery, emergency medicine, and preventative care. Originally from the UK, my family now live in Hawkes bay. My professional journey has taken me from Southland to Canterbury, and most recently to the UK for a year before returning home this year. When I'm not working, you’ll find me hiking, swimming, or diving. I also love spending time with my two ginger cats, Fred and George. Volunteering has been a big part of my life, including multiple veterinary spay/neuter outreach programs in Pacific islands and serving as a volunteer firefighter while in the South Island.
Rebekah is the practice manager of St Heliers Vet Hospital, after working as a head nurse for the Remuera branch for a number of years. She graduated in 2018 from Unitec with a diploma in Veterinary Nursing. When she isn't giving cuddles to all of the patients in clinic, you can find her enjoying the culinary scene on offer in Auckland, rollerskating and completing DIY projects at home including making her own clothes. She is a bona fide cat person and has a black and white "cow" kitty at home called Jean Jean
Mel has been a vet tech for 18 years. She has been working with the Veterinary Hospital Group for many years, and is a familiar face with staff and clients. She loves frogs although we don't often get them in clinic! Mel also loves exotic animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. Mel is now firmly ensconsed at St Heliers!
Hi there, my name is Cassy and I recently joined the Veterinary Hospital Group in 2024. I have a diploma in veterinary nursing and a certificate in feline nursing, as I'm very passionate about our feline friends. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends or bouldering. I'm excited to connect with you and your four-legged family.
