Old animals get arthritis

Though we hate to admit it, our furry friends do age, and unfortunately their joints don’t necessarily “age like fine wine”.

As some animals reach their senior year’s their body’s don’t always cope as well as it did when they were little energetic pups/kittens, with one of the most common reasons for this being arthritis.

Arthritis is the medical term for inflammation of the joints.

Similar to humans, the inflammation can then cause pain, stiffness and reduced range of motion, all leading to a negative effect on their overall mobility and day to day activity.

It is recommended to seek medical assistance from your veterinarian when you start to notice these symptoms in your senior pets, as arthritis can (in most cases) be well managed with medication, helping to improve our furry friends quality of life.

Some of the most common medical options include:

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, such as Meloxicam, to help relieve pain.

Monthly injections such as Synovan, Beransa (dogs) or Solensia (cats), to help with the fluid production around the joints and cartilage development, helping with their mobility.

And in some cases, extra pain relief can also be introduced to help with chronic pain if the vet feels necessary.

These have all lead to multiple success stories and has been proven to greatly benefit arthritic patients when done properly and routinely.

This is another reason as to why annual vet checks are essential, or even considering more frequent checks as they get older, allowing us to support our pets in all stages of life.

Yes, It’s that easy!

Consult your vet today if you think your animal’s joints need some extra TLC.

Let’s make sure as pet owners that our beloved four-legged babies get to enjoy their senior years with no unnecessary pain and restriction.
